How it works
The Shad Abad Plan, explained plainly
The Shad Abad Plan (Table-36) is for people whose main worry is what happens to the family if they die early. It behaves like a normal endowment at maturity, but the death benefit is double the sum assured — and four times it if death is accidental — plus the bonuses attached.
Terms of 10, 15, 20 or 25 years are quoted in State Life's calculator for entry ages 20 to 60, maturing by 70.
Bonuses follow State Life's Endowment rates. Once a policy is made paid-up it stops earning further bonuses, so the plan rewards seeing the term through.
What the policy pays
Benefits, as State Life defines them
- On maturity: sum assured plus accrued bonuses.
- On death during the term: double the sum assured plus accrued bonuses.
- On accidental death: four times the sum assured plus accrued bonuses.
- Premiums payable yearly, half-yearly, quarterly or monthly.
- Supplementary covers can be attached.

✓ Who it suits
- • Sole earners with young dependants who want the biggest death benefit per rupee of premium in an endowment shape.
- • People in travel-heavy or higher-risk occupations who value the accidental multiple.
✗ Who should not buy it
- • Pure savers — the extra protection is priced into the premium, so the maturity value per rupee is lower than a plain endowment.
- • Anyone who may let the policy lapse: paid-up policies forfeit future bonuses.

How your money actually grows
Most State Life savings plans are with-profit: each year the corporation values its fund and declares bonuses for participating policyholders — State Life states it distributes 97.5% of its surplus to them. Bonuses attach to your policy and are paid with your sum assured at maturity or with a claim. In 2025, State Life allocated a record PKR 181 billion in profit bonus. Read the numbers →

Before you choose the Shad Abad Plan
What makes Shad Abad different from the Endowment plan?
The death benefit. A standard endowment pays the sum assured plus bonuses on death; Shad Abad pays double the sum assured plus bonuses, and four times on accidental death. Maturity benefits are the same shape.
Are the bonuses the same as the Endowment's?
Yes — State Life's bonus page applies the Endowment rates to the Shad Abad Plan.
What terms and ages are available?
Terms of 10, 15, 20 or 25 years for entry ages 20 to 60, with maturity by age 70.
What happens if I stop paying?
After the policy has acquired a surrender value it can be made paid-up for a reduced sum assured, but a paid-up Shad Abad policy earns no further bonuses.
Can I calculate the premium online?
Yes — Shad Abad (Table-36) is in State Life's calculator; use it on this page.
What is an investment or savings plan?
It is a life-insurance plan that does two jobs at once: it protects your family, and it builds up a savings amount you receive later — on maturity, at retirement, or at a milestone like a child's education. You pay regular premiums and the plan grows over time.
What does your advice cost me?
Nothing. Our consultation is free and we do not charge you a fee. We are paid a standard commission by the insurer when a plan is issued, which is why we will tell you plainly when a plan is not right for you.
