What happened
In May 2026 in Quetta, the Government of Balochistan and State Life launched the People's Health Program — health coverage for more than 350,000 people: serving government employees, retirees, and their dependents across the province.
The launch drew senior leadership from both sides, including Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar and State Life CEO Shoaib Javed Hussain, with Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari attending as a dignitary.
How the cashless model works
The program replaces the old manual reimbursement route with a fully digital one:
- Eligible members are admitted for inpatient treatment at any of 1,000+ empaneled public and private hospitals across Pakistan — without paying cash at the counter.
- Claims are processed centrally through a technology-enabled system between State Life and the hospital.
- For the provincial government, digital processing cuts administrative delays and cost.
